"Nappy-headed ho's" is NOTHING

...compared to what is in today's rap music...and it's NOTHING compared to what hardcore racists say.
 
So .. MSNBC dropped its simulcast of the "Imus in the Morning" radio program.
 
We may not like it folks, but free speech has to swing both ways.
 
AND .. while we're dropping bigoted white guy radio shows, why give Limbaugh a free pass? He insults Barack Obama almost daily and once told a black caller to "take the bone out of your nose". Shouldn't we at least ask why Dick Cheney still appears on Limbaugh?
 
Yes, this light shining on Imus should also shine on the likes of Beck, Hannity and Limbaugh. Will they get dropped the next time they say something racist, sexist or  homophobic?
 
If we're going to clean up everyone's speech, what about when Coulter called John Edwards a faggot .. and called Arab people "ragheads"? She's been at it for years -- was all over the airways with her remark about whether to impeach or assassinate Clinton .. she also said something about poisoning a sitting Supreme Court Justice.
 
She was just joking you say? Well Imus says he was too.
 
Look, I'm not defending Imus or racism. On the contrary. EVERYONE should knock that kind of low-brow talk off .. it's mean, crude, annoying, debasing and stereotype reinforcing .. and should not be on our public airwaves.
 
But, one good thing about hate speech -- at least you know who's an asshole at heart and who is not.
 
And Al (Tawana Brawley) Sharpton and Jesse (Hymietown) Jackson ought to realize that people make mistakes .. that people can learn from these mistakes and move on.
 
So .. if our self-appointed word-sheriffs are really out to clean up Dodge, they should begin where the trash is deepest .. in their own community's rap culture, not NBC.
 
Yes, I have seen them on TV complaining about rap lyrics .. but they didn't convey what you'd call outrage.
 
Where's the outrage when black men degrade black women in songs heard thumping out of passing car windows and boom boxes on the street 24/7?

This whole Don Imus thing is incredibly overblown, and everyone involved should get over it .. concentrate on more important things. Karl Rove probably can't stop smiling since Imus shifted attention away from White House woes -- like Bush extending our troops tours of duty (a desperate stop-gap measure to save face as Iraq sinks deeper into an inescapable quagmire), the meltdown of Atty. Gen. Gonzales and all that icky US Attorney news, etc.
 
And guess what? .. people like Imus, Coulter, Limbaugh, etc. will never go away completely because the most important color in the world is not white or black, it's green.
 
If someone somewhere thinks Imus will generate an audience, he will get a new show. That simple.
