Chickens, meet roost
Subpoenas! I used to be just a political junkie .. but now I'm turning into an investigation junkie.
From the Washington Post:
"Lawmakers approved new subpoenas yesterday for Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and other Bush administration officials, part of an expanding legal battle between the Democratic-controlled Congress and the administration over issues such as the firings of eight U.S. attorneys and flawed justifications for the war in Iraq."
Subpoenas! All over the place! On the list -- White House aides, Justice Department officials, political appointees, Pentagon bigwigs...you name it, there's a Congressional committee that wants to ask them questions.
Karl Rove deputy Sara Taylor got a subpoena. Be still my heart ...
I see that the Judiciary Committee voted to grant immunity to Monica "Fifth Amendment" Goodling so that she can testify under oath about "Purgegate." Even a majority of the Republicans on the committee voted in favor. Excellent .. it's time to get her under oath.
Poor crybaby Righties are screaming "partisan witch hunt!" How quickly they forget!
During the Clinton administration there were 1,052 subpoenas issued .. for everything under the sun, from hearings on Clinton's Christmas card list to Whitewater to did he kill Vince Foster? .. did Hillary kill Vince Foster? .. so many silly things. But his biggest crime was lying about unzipping his pants. 1,052 subpoenas issued.
Okay .. now fast forward to the Bush administration, who lied us into the biggest blunder in our history, the Iraq war .. which drains our blood (3335 dead at last count, 23,000 wounded) and treasure ($6 billion a month, borrowed from future generations). The Bush administration who is breaking our military through overuse and over-deployment. Whose rich friends are filling their pockets -- 126,000 independent contractors in Iraq, with no oversight.
The list of scandals that breed in the Bush White House is just too long .. I didn't even get to the human rights and privacy violations. Anyway -- how many subpoenas do you think have been issued during the Bush administration?
That would be FIVE. Five subpoenas do not a witch hunt make.
I hope Congress starts issuing subpoenas like DUI's in Dallas on a Saturday night.
The GOP thinks yelling "partisan witch hunt!" distracts from their need to answer for the seriousness of certain charges .. or the violations of whatever laws are at stake. They just dismiss it all as being motivated by those irrational Bush-haters.
How many times do I have to say that I do not hate Bush? I just think he is incompetent and the worst president we ever had. He is destroying my country!
What Bush and his puppeteers have tried to do is RULE .. and you only need one party to rule.
When Republicans had control of Congress those six years, they completely shut out the Democrats from the entire legislative process .. there were no efforts at compromise .. nothing.
And we're not hunting for witches, we're hunting for crooked officials who break the law. Crooked officials are real!
Actually, it's not really much of a *hunt* .. not much sport at all .. more like shooting fish in a barrel here lately. Every week seems to bring a fresh barrel.
