The Republican party gave George W. Bush the keys to our country .. and he took it out for a hair-raising spin and wrapped it around a tree.

9 U.S. troops killed. Roadside bombs, combat operations claim more U.S., Iraqi lives; death toll for Americans in first four months of 2007 rises to 343.

From http://www.newsday.com:
BAGHDAD - The death toll for American forces and Iraqi civilians rose inexorably yesterday as U.S. military authorities announced the deaths of nine soldiers and Marines and a car bomb ripped through crowds of worshipers in the Shia shrine city of Karbala, killing at least 60 people.

U.S. deaths have surged in April, contributing to a grim statistic: So far this year, 343 soldiers have been killed - 53 percent more than the 224 killed in the first four months of last year, according to the Web site icasualties.org." [..]

As President Bush continues to dig in on staying the course in Iraq -- so he can pass the mess on to the next president -- our troops keep dying. I just heard on the news that 4 more soldiers are dead. Does that make 13 the last few days?

This train-wreck is gathering speed.

At least 103 American troops have died during April, making it the deadliest month of 2007 and the sixth deadliest month of the entire war.

I thought Bush said "as Iraqis stand up, we will stand down" .. a more accurate statement would've been "as we wait for the Iraqis to stand up, we will continue to be shot down."

The Iraqis are NOT standing up -- in fact their parliament said it was going to take a two-month vacation!

Here our soldiers are, losing their lives and shedding their blood to help a country .. not to mention having their tours extended to 15 months with no vacation .. but the Iraqi politicians are going to take 2 months off.

Standing up, my eye!

And this from http://www.realcities.com:
" Military planners have abandoned the idea that standing up Iraqi troops will enable American soldiers to start coming home soon . . . Pentagon officials said they know of no new training resources that have been included in U.S. plans to dispatch 28,000 additional troops to Iraq . . . In nearly every area where Iraqi forces were given control, the security situation rapidly deteriorated. The exceptions were areas dominated largely by one sect and policed by members of that sect."

What this means is that we will not be standing down. American soldiers will be doing the majority of the fighting and dying while we wait for the Iraqis to do something.

I saw a State Department report that said the number of terrorist incidents in the world were up about 30% in 2006.

And I read about the Saudis being really unhappy that the detainees coming out of Gitmo are even more extreme than when they went in. So much so that the Saudis are giving them counseling, financial aid and even match-making in order to woo them away from their attachment to terrorism.

Thus is Bush's legacy -- creating more terrorists who hate America. About 95% of the Middle East is angry with the US .. which is exactly what Osama bin Laden hoped would happen.
