Ah, the Larry Craig School of Law

...sez restroom stall hand-swiping is free speech.

Yep, Sen. Larry Craig's lawyers are arguing that "hand-signals" are constitutionally protected speech.

Next he'll say his stance was so wide because the stall was too narrow...

Poor Larry...not even the NH primary could knock this completely off the media's radar.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Seeking to have his guilty plea in a bathroom sex sting erased, the attorneys for Sen. Larry Craig of Idaho argue in a new court filing that the underlying act wasn't criminal because it didn't involve multiple victims.

....Craig's legal team argues that the hand signal allegedly used to communicate a desire to engage in sexual conduct would be constitutionally protected speech."[..]

Gah...this guy is the Energizer Bunny of public humiliation...the more he fights this the more it will be the only thing for which he'll be remembered. Because, after all, this is about an elected official engaging in unlawful and lewd behavior in a public washroom stall. A busy airport washroom stall visited by children.

As much as I dislike Craig’s, uh, positions, I can't help but wonder how much the need to be closeted has influenced his politics. Fear is a powerful motivator, especially for those who don't fit the prescribed mold.

In a perfect world it won't matter what genitalia plays with which...as long as it's of legal age and in private.

But until then, it sure gives the rest of us a good giggle.

And hey, a ruling that hand signals are protected under the Constitution could  lead to an increase in the use of the middle finger salute to politicians, cops, bosses, etc. etc. etc.
