Enough with the press-driven Dem-olition!

Gah...is there no way to oppose Obama without being racist?

Or oppose Hillary without being sexist?

Is there any way that Edwards can stand at the sidelines of this and then rise from the ashes of their flame war?

Just wondering.

Barak Obama: "I think that I may disagree with Senator Clinton or Senator Edwards on how to get there, but we share the same goals. We're all Democrats. We all believe in civil rights. We all believe in equal rights. We all believe that regardless of race or gender that people should have equal opportunities....I think that Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton have historically and consistently been on the right side of civil rights issues. I think they care about the African-American community and that they care about all Americans and they want to see equal rights and justice in this country."

Hillary Clinton: "Our party has been on the front line of every civil rights movement, women's rights movement, workers' rights movement, and other movements for justice in America. We differ on a lot of things. And it is critical to have the right kind of discussion on where we stand. But when it comes to civil rights and our commitment to diversity, when it comes to our heroes — President John F. Kennedy and Dr. King — Senator Obama and I are on the same side."

Good. Maybe this will put a stop to the ugliness. But they need to refuse to let the media egg them on. We'll see if it's all talk or if their actions back it up.

Because, one thing for sure, the media have been fanning the flames of this wildfire. This issue was driven by press gossip. They love an easy story that writes itself, where they can be cynical and not research anything, or write about boring policy.

Will they even allow Democrats to close a wound that is so much fun for them to poke and prod? They want so much to reduce the Democratic primaries to a gender/race focus.

Last night on TV a commentator from Rolling Stone made a very interesting remark--that the journalist/pundit class are a bunch of spoiled whiners who want to “fix” the election to suit their narrative.

I liked it better when we Democrats were the grownups at the party...with the Republicans squabbling in the playroom while we discussed grownup things like the issues. By issues I don't mean race and gender...but war, economy, health care, you know, stuff that matters.

Some people think that if no decisive victor emerges before convention time, the super-delegates could force Clinton and Obama onto a ticket...that it may be the best thing for the party, an unbeatable and historic combination.

I personally think a Clinton/Obama ticket would be a disaster -- there are too many people who will never vote for Hillary, combined with the cracker backlash against Obama, it would be the worst of all possible tickets.

And Obama/Clinton? Hillary as VP? The Clintons taking a backseat to anyone? Dream on . . .
