McCain not savvy about the Internets

@ 06:43 AM (16 months, 19 days ago)

Yep, he's still learning about these computers the kids are talking about.

As if the Viagra and birth control pill gaff wasn't enough meat for the comics, here's more material for the jokes and one-liners about him trying to use this new-fangled internets thingy.

You'd figure a guy who was savvy enough to become a Senator wouldn't come off like Grampa Simpson.

Buried deep within this nytimes.com article is a little gem: "[..] He said, ruefully, that he had not mastered how to use the Internet and relied on his wife and aides like Mark Salter, a senior adviser, and Brooke Buchanan, his press secretary, to get him online to read newspapers (though he prefers reading those the old-fashioned way) and political Web sites and blogs.[..]"

He relies on others to get him online? How long does it take to double-click on the Internet icon? Three year old kids can do that. That he doesn't have any more curiosity about it is slightly disturbing.

Everyone knows someone like this and it doesn't mean they're bad people...but McCain is running for the most powerful job in the free world.

Someone should tell him that the White House removed the old rotary phones years ago. He also needs to talk to Sen. Ted Stevens...now there's a guy who understands that "series of interconnected tubes."

But hey, this isn't an age thing, plenty of 70 year-olds use the Internet all day and lots of them are very advanced techies. For McCain to be so out of touch he must think the Internet is simply a popular technology, not a cultural force that's reshaped the way the majority of the world lives.

This little nugget tickled me most:

"Asked which blogs he read, he said: "Brooke and Mark show me Drudge, obviously. Everybody watches, for better or for worse, Drudge.""

Ah yes, there's nothing quite like curling up with a nice bowl of popcorn to watch Drudge.
