Light a cross for Jesse Helms
May I express my deep regret....that he didn’t live long enough to see Obama's inauguration.

"WASHINGTON - Jesse Helms, the former U.S. senator from North Carolina who for half a century infuriated liberals with his race-baiting campaign tactics and presidents of both parties with his use of senatorial privilege, died Friday. He was 86.[..]"
Since it's not nice to speak ill of the dead, I'll just say that I feel sorry for his family...especially his gay granddaughter, Jennifer Knox.
CNN glossed over the facts, but how can you speak of a man's life and not mention that he was a hateful, mean-spirited, deeply committed racist and homophobe?
Helms was clearly proud to hold these views when he was alive...why shouldn't they be tied to him now that he's dead?
It would be kind of like writing about John Wilkes Booth and focusing on what a great actor he was.

It tickles me how hard Republicans are digging around for something nice to say about him without mentioning his true character. I like this one:

Heheh...thank goodness for that.
BTW--One nasty leftie said Jesse died laughing because he heard Charlie Crist was marrying a woman. (Crist maybe trying to dispel certain rumors because he wants to be McCain's VP?)
