7 years! Way to go! I read that Germans like to "tinker with and tweak things", and now they're leading the world in Solar Powered initiatives and alternative fuels. Apparently their government has shown more foresight than some others I could name.
Meanwhile the dinosaurs of Detroit-- GM, Ford and Chrysler-- flirt with bankruptcy by continuing to make gas guzzling tanks that are rapidly losing their resale value as gas goes through the roof.
Between factory incentives and dealers trying to get rid of inventory, I've seen dealers offering trucks/SUVs for $10,000-plus UNDER sticker price.
Not hard to see where all this is going.
It's just too bad America wasn't as smart as Europe, we could have raised gas prices and gas taxes years ago. It would've caused us to switch to smaller vehicles and the taxes would've also paid for maintenance of all the roads and bridges we drive on too. Today, we'd have great roads, great small cars, a successful auto industry and little need to import ME oil.
Sometimes it's necessary to prod Americans into doing what is best for ourselves.
Had Bush had the courage to ask the American people to make such a sacrifice right after 9-11, we would be well on our way to energy independence today.
