Newt Gingrich criticizes GOP for using Gingrich tactics
There is no one more sleazy and slick than he...watch him shift his philosophy 180 degrees to fit the political climate. Funny about him decrying the politics of attack...his original creation...
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution: Gingrich blows whistle on partisanship?
"When the hyperpartisan Newt Gingrich says you’ve gone too far, you’ve really gone too far.
Gingrich has written a letter to the Republican National Committee condemning an RNC attack ad that tries to link Barack Obama to Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich. Gingrich insists the ad be pulled.
“I was saddened to learn that at a time of national trial, when a president-elect is preparing to take office in the midst of the worst financial crisis in over 70 years, that the Republican National Committee is engaged in the sort of negative attack politics that the voters rejected in the 2006 and 2008 election cycles,” Gingrich writes. Here's the attack video (in case you didn't open the ajc.com article):

Disgusting and sooo old hat. Trying to show Obama and Blagojevich joined at the hip. Some guy on TV said the RNC's tactics are so rusty, it's like they're trying to catch a motorcycle with a bicycle.
Well, it's surely no surprise that the RNC is trying to tie Obama to the Blagojevich scandal. What IS surprising though, is that Obama would be defended by the unlikeliest of allies -- Newt Gingrich. Oh yes, almost forgot, John McCain appeared on This Week and came to Obama's defense too...maybe trying to regain some of the humanity he lost during his campaign.
I'm no dummy, Gingrich's and McCain's pushback against the RNC's tactics is much more about serving their own political interests than it is about a real desire to work with the President-elect. Words are cheap...and we'll soon see.
It could be a testament to Barack Obama's popularity that Gingrich is defending him, Newt has the sense to know that the RNC is on the wrong side of both history and public opinion on this one.
Or Newt might be using this attack to jockey into position in the race for RNC chair, which will be open soon.
OR -- the mere thought makes me giddy -- he may have a higher office in mind.
I'm reminded of a column that Robert Novak wrote last month:
"In serious conversations among Republicans since their election debacle Tuesday, what name is mentioned most often as the Moses, or Reagan, who could lead them out of the wilderness before 40 years?
To the consternation of many Republicans, it is none other than Newt Gingrich, the former speaker of the House.
Gingrich is far from a unanimous or even a consensus choice to run for president in 2012, but there is a strong feeling in Republican ranks that he is the only leader of their party who has shown the skill and energy to attempt a comeback quickly.[..]"

That sly ol' Newtie could be laying some serious ground work...trying to appeal to moderate Republicans and Democrats.
Newt Gingrich in 2012?
I guess 365 electoral votes just isn't enough, the GOP wants to give us more.
