Obama to CIA - Bombs Away!
All you righties who believe President Obama isn't serious about protecting America, please see the strike in Waziristan...which had to be authorized by our new president, otherwise it wouldn't have happened.
During the second presidential debate, Obama warned that he will bomb inside Pakistan if he gets relevant intelligence about the whereabouts of Osama bin Laden...and that he will act against militants hiding in the hills between Afghanistan and Pakistan if the Pakistan government failed to do so. He said that it would be our "biggest national security priority."
Well, guess what? Looks like Obama is making good on another promise.
From the LA Times, January 24, 2009: "Reporting from Islamabad -- In the first such strikes since the inauguration of President Obama, suspected U.S. missile barrages Friday killed at least 18 people in the lawless tribal region near the Afghan border, Pakistani officials said.
The two raids suggested that the new administration intends to press ahead with attacks against militants in the rural areas, even though the campaign has been politically costly to Pakistan's Western-leaning government.
..... Although Pakistani leaders have repeatedly lodged formal objections to the airstrikes, the government is widely believed to have given tacit permission to U.S. forces to carry out such raids -- as long as they do not involve sending ground forces into Pakistani territory.[..]

It upsets me that these drone attacks result in civilian deaths. Yet, if terrorists are driven deeper into inhospitable terrain, then so be it. We have to do what we can to harass and isolate the Taliban and al Qaeda. Unmanned drones are probably very effective...disrupting their communication (cell phones, satellite phones, email, etc.) for one thing.
So - to all you "nattering nabobs of negativity" who jump on everything President Obama does or doesn't do in a nanosecond, be sure to take your blood pressure medicine...he's just getting started.
Oh and BTW - about all that whining about William Linn and lobbying?
