The Bogeyman is baaaack

I had to giggle at the sight of Dick Cheney at President Obama's inauguration...sitting there in that wheelchair, looking like a dead ringer for Mr. Potter the evil banker in "It's a Wonderful Life"...or maybe Dr. Strangelove...

Also I'd bet good money that he didn't really need that wheelchair...I'm not the only one who thinks it was just his silly way of thumbing his nose at the new administration. Ah well, at least he wore dress-up clothes instead of a parka.

And now he's back in the news, trying to do what he does best - scare Americans.

Read about it here in in his interview with Politico.com:

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0209/18390.html

Cheney attacks President Obama's policies - the plan to close Gitmo amid complaints about human rights - and warns that there's a "high probability" that we face "a 9/11-type event where the terrorists are armed with something much more dangerous than an airline ticket and a box cutter - a nuclear weapon or a biological agent of some kind" targeting a major city. Boo!

He came on acting all like if you knew everything that he knows, and when the secret documents are released, we'll see how "enhanced interrogation techniques" (waterboarding torture) actually prevented a terror attack. Boo!

Well say, Dick...is this more of a defense of your policies or some sort of information or intelligence that you have? Do you know something you're not telling the new administration? Should we try to waterboard it out of you?

Other former administration officials like Condi Rice and Sec. of Def. Gates have the same information as this political thug, yet they agree with the Obama administration's decision to close Guantanamo.

And most people think that because we now are on constant alert and have better communications, a better window into what terrorists are doing, that maybe the bigger threat is from some random lone attacker in America. Or attacks on our interests overseas. But Cheney says, based on his intelligence, he knows more than anyone.

Funny how a guy whose administration couldn't figure out the meaning of the presidential daily briefing - "Bin Laden Determined to Strike at US" - can now see the future so clearly.

Because, hey, Cheney *knows*. He *knew* Atta met with Iraqi Intel in Prague...he *knew* there were WMD in Iraq...etc. etc.

Cheney is always wrong when he blathers on about national security issues...so I guess this latest warning is a good sign.

The claim that Bush & Co. kept us safe because we haven't been attacked since 9/11 is bogus. What about how President Clinton kept us safe from terrorism? The dust had barely settled after the first World Trade Center bombing when, just six weeks after he took office, Bill Clinton tracked down, tried and jailed the bombers. For eight years there were no further terrorist attacks on US soil...until nine months after Bush took office.

The important fact is that we WERE attacked on the Bush/Cheney watch, and that they had been given plenty of warnings. They failed right off the bat and no amount of torture and war will ever redeem them.

Plus, if Bush/Cheney had gone after Bin Laden in Afghanistan, rather than going into Iraq, then maybe this wouldn't be much of an issue. Most of the big bad guys would be dead and we wouldn't have to worry about them now.

But no, the Iraq war bred more terrorists than Al Qaeda could've ever dreamed for.

Go away Darth Vader Dick, you've done quite enough damage to this country already.

I prefer to trust and listen to our smart, rational new President.
