Bullpucky!
Republicans are driving me crazy...no, not Margot Kidder hidin' in the bushes crazy...just yellin' at the TV crazy.
"Senate Debates $780 Billion Stimulus Deal"
http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/story?id=6820336&page=1
The latest cuts from the stimulus package = Head Start, Child Nutrition, Food Stamps, Public Transit...aarrgghh!
Republicans have stalled until they got the best bill they think will actually FAIL to stimulate the economy...all at the nation's expense. The majority of this nation is being blackmailed for political gain.
Their economics come from multi-millionaires and billionaires...who will never worry about losing their jobs or their homes. After eight tears of wrecking America they are still not done yet...they won't be happy until the ultra rich and the working poor are the only classes left in the US.
They say funds for food stamps, education and unemployment insurance are “wasteful?
Why wouldn't they want to help the poor people who actually SPEND the money??
Republican proposals for more tax breaks are just giving gifts to the already over-gifted...their idea of "Country First." Tax cuts for the wealthy. The bill contains tax cuts...lots and lots of tax cuts. But those tax cuts provide LESS stimulus than government spending on things like food stamps and extending unemployment benefits.
Republicans want to cut food stamps because they don't think they're stimulus. But for every dollar spent in food stamps we get $1.73 back in stimulus spending...guaranteed. For every dollar spent on funding unemployment benefits we get $1.64 back in stimulus spending. See this:
"Extending unemployment insurance and expanding food stamps are the most effective ways to prime the economy's pump. A $1 increase in UI benefits generates an estimated $1.64 in near-term GDP; increasing food stamp payments by $1 boosts GDP by $1.73 (see table). People who receive these benefits are very hard-pressed and will spend any financial aid they receive within a few weeks. These programs are also already operating, and a benefit increase can be quickly delivered to recipients."

And this really got my goat - Republicans mocking Beekeepers Ins. - which they already voted to pass twice before in the last congress. It's actually livestock Ins. But there they stood on the senate floor laughing about it, without a clue how silly they looked...because they had voted for it twice before.
Sen. Diapers Vitter said, "Stimulus bill is just a spending bill." Well duh! That gave President Obama a laugh, which you'll see in the video below.
Here's Rachel Maddow's spot-on comments about Republican bullpucky:

I heard an economic expert on TV say that spending that is not stimulus is like cash that is not money. Spending IS stimulus, period...any spending will generate jobs.
It is that simple.
