The Wall Street Journal reports that The View -- with 3.8 million viewers each day -- is "tilting away from simple celebrity plugs and devoting more time to weighty political topics."

"ABC's daytime talk show is planning more frequent political guests in the run-up to the 2010 midterm elections. Women, mostly middle-class in their 40s and 50s, are a voting bloc expected to disproportionately participate in 2010. According to Nielsen, 79% of The View audience is female with a median age of 59."

Not much of a surprise really, as the 24 hour news outlets have sunk to a new level over the years .. where The View is about as high-brow and intellectual as anything we see on cable news.

The View can be fun sometimes. I saw it when John McCain was squirming .. and when Whoopi Goldberg called Glenn Beck a lying sack of dog doodoo on the air.

But let's be realistic here, some of the best TV journalism these days is done on Comedy Central .. by Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert.
