Hoffa should've said "vote" instead of "take" ..

... and "sons-of-bitches" instead of "son-of-a-bitches" ...

The far right is still clutching their pearls and going ballistic about what Jimmy Hoffa said the other day ...

From the LA Times: "Teamsters President James Hoffa on Tuesday defended his comments attacking the "tea party" movement even as the White House tried to distance itself from the political dispute.

On Labor Day, Hoffa used fiery language to introduce President Obama at a pro-union rally in Detroit. Hoffa said Obama wanted jobs and needed political help in getting his program passed.

"Everybody here's got to vote," Hoffa said. "If we go back and keep the eye on the prize, let's take these sons of a bitches out and give America back to America where we belong!" [..]"

Suh-prize, suh-prize .. Fox News immediately aired a flat-out dishonest, edited version of Hoffa’s language .. continually playing clips of him saying:

"Let’s take these son of a bitches out and give America back to America where we belong! Thank you very much!"

And the even more blatant cut:

"President Obama, this is your army. We are ready to march. Let’s take these son of bitches out and give America back to an America where we belong,"

I personally wish he had said "vote" instead of "take" .. because he was talking about voting .. this was not a call to violence .. he wants to take the far-right politicians out of office, not out of existence.

This is all pretty silly. Republicans seemed comfortable enough with Sarah Palin's putting sniper crosshairs on Democratic targets (one of which was shot in the head), her "reload" rhetoric, or Sharon Angle's "second amendment solutions" .. or even Rick Perry’s comments about Texas gettin' ugly with treasonous Ben Bernanke.

Do I wish the martial imagery and rhetoric could be toned down a few degrees? Yes. Do I see every single instance of it as perfectly equivalent? No.

I'd bet good money that if it had been a Republican instead of Gabby Giffords who was shot in the head, there would be howls for justice and vengeance .. instead we get some twit auctioning off Glocks in Arizona.

But, being a Democrat with a sense of fairness, I can just imagine the hoo-hah if Rush Limbaugh had said what Hoffa did.

Anyway .. now the Tea Party's got the vapors over Hoffa, and are so totally not going to vote for the black guy.

Dang! Obama was depending on that demographic next year!
